The Sony Betamax SL-7200.  It could record for an hour, with no timer functions.  All the way from 30 years ago.  Later Sony introduced a 24-hour one-event timer for $45 as an option.  Then it released the X2 which could record for 2 hours.

BetaStack

It was an "auto-changer" for Betamax tapes, from 1981.  It was Sony's answer to VHS's longer recording times.  Don't miss Dick's description of how the BetaStack went about its business.
