Mad Trips

Bill Gaines had an arrangement with Dick whereby Dick would try out gadgets first which Dick would pay for.  With this particular gadget, Bill Gaines bought 30 of them to give to his staff on a Mad staff trip to Italy.  In the English dictionary on the watch, the word "MAD" was followed by "MAGAZINE". Gaines refused to believe that Dick had not got Casio to engineer this watch specially for Mad.

Mad Customer Care

One subscriber from Haiti cancelled his Mad subscription.  Bill Gaines took the entire Mad staff to go to the customer's house in Haiti to beg him to renew his subscription, which he did.  Since then, Gaines would take the Mad staff on a trip every year, all expenses paid.

Bill was also meticulous about the quality of Mad products and accessories.  If he got more than a few complaints, he would cancel the product.

Trip to Hoboken

Leo promises that one day he'll take Dick on a trip to Hoboken, all subway expenses paid.
