Short info

The ultimate universal remote: the Logitech Harmony 880, $250

Detailed information

The ultimate universal remote control.  The Harmony Remote works with a huge collection of appliances in its database, and it has a learning mode for those not covered in the database.  Through the software (PC and Mac) that comes with it, you program the actions you need to take into a single control button, such as Watching DVD.  Press the button on the Harmony and all the necessary appliances will turn on, with the appropriate modes/channels selected.  Selected models even have RF which works even without a direct line of sight.
If things don't work as you expect, a Help button makes it easy to troubleshoot what’s wrong. The new model 880 has added a rechargeable lithium ion battery that charges whenever it's sitting in its cradle. Even the cradle has a high tech glowing blue light. It has a color LCD screen with 8 display icons for different activities (Play DVD, Watch PVR, Listen to CD). You can even upload your own images (no larger than 160KB) for the icons.

Listening Habit

A listener who is a truck driver writes in to say that he drives a truck and listens to DGW while driving his truck.  He does not do it while having his shower.  The idea of showering with Dick and Leo creeps him up.
